**I wrote this at three in the morning. PLEASE inform me if there are any weird typos or things which don't make sense. I had trouble figuring out the Word Thesaurus, so there might be some odd words in strange places.

Full name: Desmond Winters
Affiliation: Vox Angelus

Physical:
Age: 32
Height: 6’2”
Eye color: icy blue
Hair color: dark brown, nearly black
Scars/tattoos/piercings: inch-long scar at the base of his skull
Body type in general: athletic (he jogs)
Wears: business suits, button-up shirts and slacks, turtlenecks. Even his casual seems formal.

Generic:
Species/Specialty: human precognitive.
Theme Song: “Clocks” by Coldplay

Actions:
Occupation: agent of PIRA
Keeps busy with: work, cleaning, reading the New Yorker, generally being a thorn in anyone’s side he can, poker, half-jokingly consulting his Magic Eight Ball for advice, his bonsai tree, model ship building (the wooden type, not the plastic).

Becomes bored by: anything he considers to be low-brow (and that can change whenever it suits him), bad food or wine, people trying to get past his ‘rough exterior’, shows of sentimentality, being nice to those he doesn’t deem ‘worth it’, pop music, outdoor activities beyond running, most television

Addicted to/obsessed with: fine wine and beers. Is an amazing and intuitive cook. He’s quite a food snob, in fact. Mod culture and music. British Invasion music. Naval history. Numbers. Solving puzzles of all types. Cultivating his bonsai tree and growing kitchen herbs.

Eats and drinks: anything expensive, aged wine, exotic foods, Brazilian steaks when possible

Habits: not blinking for long periods of time. Putting his feet up on his desk while in conversation with someone.

Listens to: Delerium, Autour de Lucie, The Kinks, The Beatles, The Monkees, Marmalade, April March, Coldplay, Cream, Janis Joplin, The Blues Magoos, The Animals, Jefferson Airplane, Cake, The Smiths, The Doors, The Zombies

Relationships:
Family then and now: The only child of emotionally unavailable parents who pushed him to excel in academics and social activities. They went through an extremely messy divorce when he was fifteen, leaving his mother to become an alcoholic, and his father to die when Desmond was 26. Desmond never lived up to his father’s standards, and partially lives in his shadow. Neither of his parents ever believed or acknowledged Desmond’s precognitive powers, despite multiple occasions in which he proved his claims true.

Best friends: He doesn’t really have any friends. He’s got several acquaintances, but no one very close. Friends can be a burden and bring pain, by his reckoning. The hurt has never been worth the trouble, so he shuts himself off from friendship. Edmund is the closest he has to a friend, but he considers him to be less so than Edmund does. Still, if the situation became dire, Desmond would indeed risk his life for Edmund, and is a bit more gentle with the verbal abuse when with the socially stunted genius.

Enemies: There are very few people who actually like Desmond, and he’s cut a path of hostility in his wake, ranging from college to PIRA. There’s no one at the moment who would actively seek him out in order to do harm, but a large number of those who wouldn’t spit on him if he were on fire.

Crushes/love interests: Desmond does NOT want to admit it, but he finds Rose extremely attractive. She is a polar opposite of himself, in that she doesn’t care about the finer things in life, she’s open and nowhere near as cynical as he is, her tastes in food are ‘crude’, according to him, and she’s bubbly, unsophisticated, and fun. Her personality draws him to her like a whirlpool threatening to engulf him. Though he’s unaware of it, she is beginning to teach him to open up to the idea of caring for others, friendship, and the most basic of generous feelings that most individuals are comfortable with. Rose is chipping away at all his substantial walls, though neither of them realize it, and the progress is unbearably slow. He almost has himself convinced that it’s nothing more than a small case of infatuation based on lust, and Rose certainly has no idea that she’s receiving any different attentions than anyone else Desmond happens upon. (Rose does, however, feel an intense attraction to him, as well, but like Desmond, will not acknowledge the feeling, since on the surface, she considers him to be an outright ass and jerk.)
A song for Desmond and Rose: “Where Will You Go” by Evanescense
Most influential person: Both parents created the emotionally distant Desmond, helping to shore up the walls around his mind and heart.

Loyalty to those closest: Desmond hardly has anyone close enough to him to be loyal to. On the surface, he doesn’t care about Edmund, but would defend him were the latter to find himself in trouble, whether physically or socially. The same goes for Rose, though as time goes on, it is harder for Desmond to ignore that he is becoming more protective of her, more willing to do things for her. Still, by normal standards, his loyalty to these two could seem below par.

Mental:
Moral standards: They lean mostly toward good, but that’s a loose definition, and can be mercurial, depending on his mood and the situation. Number One does come first, but he knows right from wrong. Desmond highly dislikes the idea of black and white, good and evil. He sees and acknowledges the grey areas in between, and chooses to live in that grey area as much as he can. He has no problem lying to those he’s got no loyalty of any sort to, and feels no obligation to treat anyone with kid gloves.

Relative intelligence: Incredibly intelligent, though nowhere near Edmund’s genius level.

Temper: Desmond becomes irked easily and will snap at strangers, pulling no punches with his acerbic comments. He doesn’t quite have a short fuse, but comes close to it. Most of the time, however, not much truly bothers him past the point of minor irritation, because he doesn’t care enough about the folks who surround him to let anything bother him. Rose gets under his skin, however, and can drive him to his boiling point. He still refuses to come to any understanding as to why.
Religious inclinations: Agnostic, apathetic. A fan of the God as a watchmaker theory.

Fears: The monsters under the bed really will get him one day. That someday down the line, his precognitive powers will fail him, and he won’t respond to some unforeseen danger in time. Failure. Rejection.

Goals: He doesn’t really have any at the moment. Desmond’s in a comfortable holding pattern at PIRA, where, despite his unsociable temperament, he still fits in better than in the ‘real world’.

Personality:
Overall outlook on life: Typically cynical.

Type/level of humor: dry, sarcastic, biting, acerbic, witty, and lighting fast.
Emotional availability: Almost nil.

Sensitivity/Empathy toward others: Desmond understands people fairly well. He was brought up to believe that most emotions equal weakness, however, and this makes it difficult for him to connect with others. Though he would never admit it, Desmond does long to feel what others feel, to be unafraid of showing and experiencing the brightest and blackest of sentiments and passions.

Personality highlights: He gets things done with unerring determination and efficiency. When he wants something, almost nothing can stand in his way. He is extra hardworking and somewhat of a perfectionist. Desmond’s confident and really quite funny most of the time. Personality low points: He’s a jerk, verbally harsh, almost impossible to befriend, emotionally unavailable, self-serving, and rude.
That which could be either of the two above: Desmond defines “intense”.

Quirks: He hates fast food with a passion, and would rather starve than touch it. Animals absolutely adore him and he has no idea of how to handle it; he likes them back, on the sly.

Past:
Previous jobs: CPA, banker, business consultant.
Grew up where: a few miles out of Baltimore, Maryland.
Level of schooling: College; American University.
How they became (occupation) and/or (specialty): Desmond was run over by a pickup truck in the parking lot of a grocery store when he was 12. The damage to his head triggered his latent precognitive abilities, and they grew in time from tiny hints of the future, to full-blown visions. His parents turned a blind eye to what they considered lies to get their attention, and the few friends he told mocked him mercilessly, so Desmond learned early on to keep his abilities to himself. Over the years, his skill strengthened and became sharp, so that now it is like second nature to him. He found out about PIRA through personal research into the paranormal, ESP, and other abnormal mental aptitudes, and after determining that PIRA was not a sham or money-stealing scheme, he pretty much invited himself into their fold.

Other Important Information:
Desmond sees flashes of the future. These flashes normally warn him of potential danger ahead. Most of the time, these flashes are clear and to the point, though sometimes they’re much more muddled than he’d like. They can range in size and importance, from hints of impending death, injury, or extreme embarrassment, to small events such as a pen bursting in his pocket. No matter what they entail, however, they all have one common factor: they all relate to him in some way. If something is to happen to him or to someone he happens to care about, Desmond’s ability will kick in. He cannot, therefore, necessarily predict dire world happenings such as earthquakes, floods, assassinations, or terrorist attacks, unless he will be somehow involved in a manner that would be important to his life. Knowing this has, in part, added to Desmond’s walled-in emotional nature, for he feels guilt in not being able to do anything to prevent disasters and tragedies. Were something to potentially occur regarding Edmund or Rose, for example, visions of the ensuing danger would reach Desmond, no matter how far apart he was from either of the two of his friends. He understands that the more visions he has entailing Edmund and Rose, the more he cares for them, but this, too, he refuses to admit to.
