For the latest PE trade I participated in, we were supposed to put our trade partner's character in an historical situation.

I got Changeweaver's gal, Shardana, and chose to go Mayan.

To be honest, I never, ever liked the ancient South American cultures. Incans, Mayans, Aztecs, etc, were all so incredibly bloody that it's frankly a turn-off to me. Rather, religion and that much sacrifice don't shake my party boat.

However, I have to say that this was an incredibly enjoyable exercise. This one helped me to learn to paint in single/similar colors and not to make backgrounds overpowering.

I'm not so sure how historical the costume really is, but it was fun.

Love her sulrty stare, the muted background makes the figure almost seem to glow.

Yeah, the detail is there, but subdued, it doesn't overpower.

Regardless of how bloody and . . .sacrificey they were, I think they had some awesome art goin' on for them! I love how she's all in cool colors and the background is red; really makes her pop! I love her headdress and the leopard skin tossed over her legs. She looks like she is going to eat me! :(

One good thing about the Mayans though was there imagery and art. Very cool and distinct it was, preciousss. :nod:
The background and her headdreass is shaking my boat like crazy. :D

Harhar. That headdress drove me bananas. Feathers are haaaaaard. It didn't quite come out the way I wanted it to. Oh, well. NEXT time!

Well, bloody, yes, but they also had chocolate! ;)

Seriously, though, the details are just fantastic. The sheen in the feathers and her hair, and subtle carvings behind her are my favorite parts. The primary color scheme is really eye-catching, too.
