Mary's Thumb

So, between urgings from and a bit of inspiration from , I sketched and painted this last night. I've had images in my head like this for ages now, but never thought they'd be of any value to bring into life.

Now, I think differently. I call them Mary's Thumbs because when they're in sketch form, they look ... like thumbs with faces. Har. But hopefully not so much when painted. They are, to me, a culmination of so many things and beliefs and spiritual feelings... they are influenced by Catholic icons (especially Mary), the Elements, pagan goddesses, Russian nesting dolls...

This one could be Mary, Sedna, the Ocean... so hopefully if it's universal to me, it'll be universal to others.

I'd like to find a better name for them, since I plan to do more of them.
